This doctoral programme, implemented by RISEBA and the School of Banking in cooperation with the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and University of Applied Science Kaiserslautern (Germany), trains doctors of science, highly qualified researchers and specialists in the field of economics and business. Upon completion of studies, the graduate is familiar with and understands the most up-to-date scientific theories and findings, is proficient in research methodology and contemporary research methods in the field of economics and business and at the interface between different fields.

Lectures are held in sessions three times a year (October, February and May) using online tools, providing a blended learning approach regarding both the theoretical studies and the discussion of the thesis at different stages of its development.

Courses are taught in the form of lectures, seminars and discussions. Doctoral students’ independent work is discussed in seminars. Foreign lecturers and experts, industry leading specialists are also involved to teach study courses, presenting papers on current trends in the industry. During the studies, doctoral students carry out case studies in specific sectors. Students also have the opportunity to influence the content of their courses by choosing the topics that are most relevant to them, or by choosing the issues that are most relevant to their research interests. All courses also discuss the latest research based on scientific articles.

Career opportunities

By obtaining a doctoral degree in business management, a student has all opportunities to obtain top-level positions in public administration and business, while in the academic environment a student can work as a leading researcher, professor and expert of the Latvian Council of Science. The in-depth knowledge of economics and entrepreneurship acquired also enables graduates to set up and successfully develop their own businesses.

Any student of the doctoral programme who has completed at least one year of study can participate in the Erasmus+ exchange programme.
A student can go to study at one of RISEBA’s partner universities. The duration of study mobility is 2–12 months.
The student does not have to pay for the period spent in the study and internship exchange programme abroad; the tuition fee is covered by the partner university, but the student continues to pay the RISEBA tuition fee. For the period spent abroad during mobility, the student is awarded an Erasmus+ scholarship to cover the costs of transport and accommodation.
* Erasmus+ internship mobility provides that a student can undergo an internship in one of the companies of interest in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries. For this internship period, the student receives an Erasmus+ scholarship. The duration of internship mobility is 2–12 months.
