Social Scholarship “Studētgods”: Applications for the First Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year

From 1 to 20 September 2026, students at Latvian higher education institutions can apply for the social scholarship “Studētgods” for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. The social scholarship amounts to €180 per month. Applications must be submitted electronically via the Latvija.lv.

Who Can Apply for the Social Scholarship?

Full-time, daytime students at Latvian higher education institutions who are 25 years old or younger (inclusive) may apply, provided that they are obtaining their first higher education qualification and meet the eligibility criteria for receiving the social scholarship.

Social Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • “Young Person 3+” – at least one of the student’s parents has three or more children registered in the Register of Natural Persons;
  • “Parent 3+” – the student has three or more children registered in the Register of Natural Persons;
  • Orphan or a young person without parental care – the student was registered as an orphan or as a young person without parental care before reaching the age of 18;
  • Group I or II disability;
  • the student belongs to a household that has been granted low-income or disadvantaged household status.
What Other Requirements Must Be Met?

When awarding the social scholarship, the student’s academic performance and income are also taken into account.

During their studies, the student must have satisfactory academic results, no outstanding academic debts, and a weighted average grade of at least 6.

How and When to Apply?

Applications for the social scholarship must be submitted electronically via the Latvija.lv portal, using the “Studētgods” e-service.

Students must submit a new application each semester:

  • 1–20 September – for the first semester;
  • 1–20 February – for the second semester.

Please note that students who received the scholarship in the previous semester must also submit a new application. Applications cannot be submitted outside the specified application periods or through any other method.
