RISEBA Students Meet with Representatives of the Latvian UN Youth Delegate Programme
RISEBA welcomed five representatives of the Latvian UN Youth Delegate Programme – Emīls Bergs, Paula Pāvila, Severīns Jansons, Kārlis Kotrels and Elizabete Sparāne – who introduced students to the programme’s activities, opportunities for young people to engage in international affairs and key issues on the United Nations agenda.
During the meeting, students learned more about youth representation at national and international levels, Latvia’s involvement in UN initiatives and opportunities to contribute to addressing global challenges. Discussions highlighted the importance of youth participation in policymaking, international cooperation and raising public awareness of current global issues.
About the Latvian UN Youth Delegate Programme
The Latvian UN Youth Delegate Programme (UN YDP) is an initiative established in Latvia in 2019. Its aim is to encourage young people’s participation in international relations and matters on the UN agenda, as well as to ensure that young people’s views and interests are represented at both national and international levels.
The programme is closely linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on youth engagement in policymaking, international cooperation and raising public awareness of global challenges.
As part of the programme, an annual National Conference and other educational activities are organised. Young people also develop proposals and recommendations, which are discussed with representatives of national institutions and international organisations, including the United Nations General Assembly.
Currently, Nikola Kleinberga serves as Latvia’s Senior UN Youth Delegate.
The meeting gave RISEBA students an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of how young people can engage in international affairs and how their ideas and initiatives can contribute to broader global processes.
