The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Central Board has approved the composition of the FIBA Commissions and Working Groups for the 2023-2027 cycle.

Edgars Šneps, lecturer of RISEBA University Master’s study programme “Sports Management” and former Secretary General of the Latvian Basketball Association, has been confirmed as the Head of the Competition Commission.
He will oversee four autonomous areas: men’s national team competitions (vice-chairman Jim Tooley from the USA), women’s national team competitions (vice-chairman Pascale Mugwaneza from Rwanda), youth competitions (vice-chairman Peter Bodnar from Hungary) and club competitions (vice-chairman Antalyalı Serhan from Turkey).

The 3×3 Basketball Commission (chaired by Carmen Tokal from Romania) also includes Raimonds Vējonis, President of the Latvian Basketball Association

The Technical Commission will be chaired by Eleonora Rangelova (Bulgaria), the Legal Commission by Erika Dy (Philippines), the Players Commission by Dirk Nowitzki (Germany), the Finance Commission by Ingo Weiss (Germany), the Medical Commission by Peter Harcourt (Australia).

The FIBA Commissions have an advisory status, gathering and developing ideas and proposals in their respective areas of responsibility, which are decided by the FIBA Central Board.

The press release particularly stresses the balance between all zones as well as gender representation. The Commissions involve stars such as European Women’s Championship MVP Sonja Vasic and Dirk Nowitzki.
