Exhibition “HYDROCITY: Urban Water Edge Conditions in Kipsala, Latvia, and Wirral, UK”
We invite you to experience the vision of the Manchester School of Architecture and RISEBA Faculty of Architecture and Design students on water edge conditions in Kipsala, Riga and Wirral Waters, UK. The exhibit is open at the RISEBA H2O Quarters, Durbes Iela 4, from March 13, 2024 to April 12, 2024. This project is a collaborative design laboratory by Manchester School of Architecture and RISEBA Faculty of Architecture and Design
The Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) and RISEBA University Faculty of Architecture and Design (FAD) are conducting a collaborative laboratory on urban water edge conditions. The joint venture started in the summer of 2023 and will continue until the end of 2024 as the schools swapped locations to develop future visions in cooperation with each other.
The RISEBA FAD’s Urban Design Lab is exploring the ability of design to connect the disassociated edges within the ambitious urban regeneration of Wirral waters – the historical port area in the city of Birkenhead in England, located between two rivers and the sea. The Master Program’s Urban Design Lab and Bachelor Program’s Architectural Design III Studio are carrying out the urban analysis and architectural design proposals on Wirral Waters.
In the meantime, the MSA’s Urban Design Lab – Edge City is developing proposals for the reinvention of Kipsala Island as a new, distinctive, sustainable waterside city district. This lab explores future urban design visions to repurpose the Kipsala Island on the west bank of the River Daugava, Riga.
