About European University Institute:
The European University Institute (EUI) is the leading social sciences and humanities institute in Europe, founded in 1972 by the Member States of the European Community. The Institute is an international centre for research and higher education, contributing to the cultural and scientific development of Europe by providing studies at university level, interdisciplinary research on major societal issues, and robust intellectual debate and discussion. The EUI produces high-level scientists and policy-makers whose professional activities will contribute to social progress and European development. The EUI hosts around 1000 students from more than 85 countries. Over the past 14 years, since Latvia joined the Convention establishing the European University Institute, nine Latvian researchers have obtained doctoral degrees in law, politics and social sciences. Currently, five Latvian PhD students are studying at the EUI.
Current Latvian students at the EUI appreciate the Institute’s facilities, the individual approach to each PhD student, the varied social life of the students and the opportunity to develop professional contacts with PhD students and professors from other world-class universities. In addition to writing their dissertation, students have the opportunity to participate in other academic projects such as data collection and processing, book and publication writing. Before the start of doctoral studies, a doctoral agreement is concluded between the Ministry of Education and Science and the candidate admitted to the EUI. Applicants who have written a high-quality research proposal that meets the requirements of the EUI have a better chance of obtaining a scholarship for doctoral studies at the EUI.
On 29 November, 16.00-17.00, all interested individuals are invited to an informative online seminar on the Zoom platform.
