10 Insights for Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Kalbinder Singh Srai’s Guest Lecture at RISEBA University

On December 17th, RISEBA University students had a great opportunity to learn from the experienced entrepreneur Kalbinder Singh Srai, the owner of the Singht’s restaurant chain. Together with first-year students, future entrepreneurs, and managers, we listened carefully and took notes on Kalbinder Singh Srai’s 10 insights:

  1. Who you are at home is who you will be everywhere. Discipline and order must be present in all areas of your life. Every ritual and detail that helps maintain order and discipline is reflected in your work. Discipline is not only useful in everyday life but also in business. Discipline is the key to everything.
  2. Never leave work until the last minute. Even though we live in a changing world where adaptation is necessary, tasks should not be done at the last moment. Delaying work eliminates the chance to correct mistakes, analyze situations, and evaluate results. Creating a to-do list is a form of self-discipline.
  3. If a meeting is scheduled for 10.00 and you arrive at 10.00, you are late. Arriving 10-15 minutes early is not just polite; it’s essential. Arrive early to collect your thoughts and emotionally prepare for the conversation.
  4. Remember, throughout your life, you are competing with people who want the same things as you. Whether it’s the same job, status, or idea, others are pursuing similar goals.
  5. Others judge you by what you do and how you do it. Your body language, tone of voice, the topics you discuss (or avoid), and your appearance all contribute to the impression you make.
  6. Wear your best suit, dress, or outfit to meetings. First impressions are visual. People observe you with their eyes. Always make sure your shirt is impeccable, and wear the best outfit suited to the occasion.
  7. In business meetings, avoid discussing religion and politics. These topics are best left for after work.
  8. Conversation is a crucial part of relationships. Speak up, and people will notice you. Talk to everyone – your employees, supervisors. Dialogue and conversation form the foundation of good relationships.
  9. To achieve something, you have to take action! “I started my path in business because I wanted more.” To get more, you must do more. Youth is the time for research and knowledge accumulation. Take action now so you can use it later.
  10. Asking questions means learning. Knowledge is gained by asking questions. Don’t be afraid of asking “stupid” questions – next time, you’ll know the answer.
