Double Silver for RISEBA Chess Player Madara Golsta at the Latvian Student Chess Championship

RISEBA student and National Chess Master Madara Golsta has claimed two silver medals at the Latvian Student Chess Championship, demonstrating her skill in both rapid chess and blitz.

The Latvian Student Chess Championship took place on 17 and 18 October 2026 at the Riga Chess Federation premises as part of the Latvian Universiade. Organised by the Latvian University Sports Federation (LASS), the event brought together students from universities across Latvia, creating an international and competitive chess environment.

On the first day, participants competed in rapid chess, followed by blitz on 18 October. Madara Golsta delivered an impressive performance in both tournaments, finishing second in each and securing two silver medals.

Her result in the blitz tournament was particularly noteworthy. On 18 October, Madara finished runner-up to Maria Paula Hernandez Fonseca of Colombia, a Woman International Master (WIM) representing Riga Technical University (RTU).

The championship had a distinctly international character, with participants representing the chess federations of Latvia, Colombia, Spain, Slovakia and France. Students from RISEBA, Riga Technical University, the University of Latvia and Rīga Stradiņš University took part, while the Riga Graduate School of Law was also represented in the blitz competition.

Madara’s achievement is a source of pride for the entire RISEBA community. Winning two silver medals reflects her dedication, perseverance and ability to compete successfully against strong opponents.

Congratulations to Madara Golsta on this outstanding achievement! We wish her every success in future competitions.

RISEBA would also like to thank Riga Chess Federation for organising an excellent championship and the Latvian University Sports Federation for its initiatives to encourage student participation in sport, strengthen university communities and foster collaboration between higher education institutions.
