RISEBA Lecturer Guntis Trekteris Produces Film “Ulya”, Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival
On Thursday, May 21, the latest feature film by director Viesturs Kairišs, “Ulya”, had its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France. The film is produced by RISEBA lecturer Guntis Trekteris. “Ulya” has been selected for the festival’s official competition programme “Un Certain Regard”.
The screenplay is based on the biography of legendary basketball player Uļjana Semjonova, portraying her search for identity and journey from rural Latvia to the heights of international sports. The leading role is played by actor Kārlis Arnolds Avots, who is also one of the screenwriters of the film. As noted on social media by Dita Rietuma, Head of the National Film Centre of Latvia, the film was received in Cannes with long standing ovations and enthusiastic applause from the audience.
“Ulya” is a co-production between Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and Lithuania, produced by the studio Ego Media under the leadership of producer Guntis Trekteris. RISEBA is proud of its lecturer’s international achievements and wishes the film “Ulya” wide international recognition and continued success.
