RISEBA students create short films together with professional Latvian actors

Students of the Audiovisual Arts and Media Arts programmes at the Business, Arts and Technology University RISEBA have produced three fully developed short films this spring under the guidance of lecturer and film producer Lelde Kovaļova – “Slugs”, “The Feast”, and “5 Minutes and I Will Disappear”.

The aim of the projects was to create professional-level productions while bringing students as close as possible to the real environment and demands of the film industry. Throughout the filmmaking process, students developed their dramaturgical thinking, strengthened practical skills, and gained valuable experience working with professional actors, film equipment, and a fully structured film set environment. The short film “Slugs”, starring Egons Dombrovskis in the leading role, tells the story of a man’s desperate battle against slugs. Meanwhile, “The Feast” is a grotesque and surreal story exploring consumer culture through the setting of an elegant dinner party. The film was shot at Nordeķu muiža and stars Madara Reijere in the leading role. The film “5 Minutes and I Will Disappear” presents a dystopian vision of society, where total control and routine inspections can become fatal. The leading role in the film is played by Oto Madernieks.

The projects were supported by RISEBA, while professional film equipment was provided by BB Rental. Second-year students also participated in a practical masterclass held at the company’s premises together with cinematographer Jānis Eglītis, where they explored grip equipment and its application in film production.

The films were created with the support of RISEBA, BB Rental, SUFIDE, Nordeķu muiža, R.C. Pica, Makss un Morics, and UzKoda.
