RISEBA Students Participated in the International “OUR VOICE” Youth Conference in Gothenburg
In May this year, RISEBA students travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden, to take part in the international ERASMUS+ project “OUR VOICE”, which brought together young people and educators from Latvia, Sweden, Iceland, Ireland, and Türkiye. The project focused on youth voice, democracy, participation, and discussions on issues that are important to society.
The conference was held in a hybrid format, combining both in-person and remote participants, which created an international and dynamic atmosphere. From the very first day, participants had the opportunity to explore Gothenburg in an informal setting through shared activities, walks around the city, and a boat trip. This helped participants quickly connect with one another and created a friendly environment for the activities ahead.
Students worked in international groups together with young people from other countries, discussing topics such as:
- recognising fake news and critical thinking,
- the biggest challenges facing young people today,
- democratic participation and youth involvement,
- the future of European society,
- the impact of indifference on democracy and society.
RISEBA students actively participated in discussions, presented their ideas, and shared experiences with participants from other countries. One of the most valuable aspects of the project was the opportunity to hear different perspectives and work together on finding solutions to current challenges affecting young people across Europe.
Youth-led activities also played an important role throughout the project. Students themselves moderated discussions, presented conclusions, and took part in panel discussions. This allowed them to develop their public speaking skills, strengthen international collaboration skills, and gain confidence in expressing and defending their ideas.
At the end of the conference, each working group presented its conclusions and recommendations on how young people can become more actively involved in social processes and help strengthen democratic values within their communities.
