The 18th Annual Scientific Baltic Business Management Conference to Take Place in Riga

From 27 to 29 May, the 18th Annual International Scientific Baltic Business Management Conference (ASBBMC 2025) will take place at the RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, H2O6 Architecture and Media Centre (Durbes iela 4), in Riga. The conference will bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, and policy makers from the Baltic States and beyond.

This year’s conference theme is “Human-Tech Era: Humans and Technology Shaping Sustainable Societies Together.” The theme highlights a key challenge of today’s digital world – how to foster meaningful collaboration between humans and technology in order to ensure the development of sustainable societies.

Digital technologies have become an integral part of everyday life, business, and education. They are shaping the future of society and sustainable human capital. Technological advancements and the integration of artificial intelligence into daily life are driving global progress and helping to create a responsible society that is able to adapt swiftly to changing circumstances.

But are we truly ready to face these challenges? Do we fully understand the impact of digital technologies on business, public governance, and consumer decision-making?

These are just some of the questions to be explored during the conference. Among the keynote speakers and expert panelists will be internationally recognised business management professionals and professors from leading global business schools, including: Professor Jay Mitra (University of Essex), Long-time OECD senior expert Sergio Arzeni, Entrepreneurs and technology consultants Sudip Roy (UK) and Manuel Rincon (Spain), Educational technology expert and Rector of AKAD University Tim Brüggemann (Germany), and other leading industry specialists.

Well-known Baltic entrepreneurs and digital technology experts will also participate, such as Konstantīns Kuzikovs, Board Member of the Latvian Advertising Association and long-time head of the news portal “Delfi”, as well as Jānis Grēviņš, Director of the Centre for Shared IT Services in Higher Education and Science.

The organisers invite attendees to take a broader look at the often-used term “digital era”. It is in fact the Human-Tech era – a time defined by collaboration between people and technologies.

What does it mean to collaborate with technology in business, education, and society?
This collaboration includes the smart use of data for societal development and is being implemented across entrepreneurship, forward-looking policy and economic development, and a transformation of educational paradigms. The goal of this collaboration is to shape a society where human knowledge and skills are aligned with the demands of today’s evolving labour market.

So, what exactly is digital society and digital entrepreneurship? Jay Mitra and Sudip Roy will explore this question. Is the virtual university a utopia or an already existing reality? Tim Brüggemann will address this and share insights on how AI is being used in educational research. What is “Human-Tech” journalism and what are its risks and challenges? These issues will be discussed by Konstantīns Kuzikovs. Meanwhile, Manuel Rincon will examine the broad ethical questions surrounding artificial intelligence in a geopolitical context.

The conference will be an opportunity for researchers, education professionals, business experts, and public sector specialists to meet and exchange ideas and insights. It will also be a platform for presenting and validating innovative ideas that may help shape the society of the future.

The conference is organised by the RISEBA University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the BA School of Business and Finance and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
The working language of the conference is English.
